How to become a Deliveroo rider in France

Deliveroo works with self-employed riders: you need your own business registered in France, usually a micro-enterprise, before you can apply. Deliveroo has a sign-up page in English. This guide lists what Deliveroo asks for in 2026, the rules for bikes and scooters, and how payment and subcontracting work.

In short

  • Be 18 or older and registered as self-employed in France.
  • Bike, pedal-assisted e-bike, cargo bike, motor scooter or motorbike: with a motor scooter or a motorbike, you also need a transport licence.
  • Payment every two weeks, with daily cash-out in the app.
  • Subcontracting is allowed only if it is declared and accepted by Deliveroo.

What Deliveroo asks for

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be registered as a self-employed worker in France: a micro-enterprise with its SIRET is the simplest way.
  • Your identity card or passport and, if you are not from the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, a residence permit that gives the right to work as self-employed (« activité non salariée »).
  • A document proving that your business exists, less than 30 days old. Deliveroo's documents page asks for an « extrait KBIS ou équivalent »: as a micro-entrepreneur, your equivalent is the « extrait K », free on monidenum.fr. INSEE's free « avis de situation » also shows your SIRET, but Deliveroo does not say that it accepts it.
  • A bank account. For a commercial activity such as delivery, an account used only for your business is compulsory from the start (a personal account used only for this is enough).

Deliveroo also asks for some documents while you work with it, such as the URSSAF « attestation de vigilance », when you sign the contract and then every 6 months until it ends.

Vehicles

  • Bike, cargo bike or pedal-assisted electric bike (« VAE »: a motor of 250 W at most that only helps while you pedal, up to 25 km/h): no transport licence needed.
  • Motorbike, motor scooter or electric moped (« scooter électrique »): Deliveroo asks for your driving licence, professional insurance and your goods transport licence (« capacité de transport »). Deliveroo does not list kick scooters (« trottinettes »).

That licence comes from French law: any business that delivers goods for others with a motorised vehicle, two-wheelers included, must be in the transport register and hold the « attestation de capacité professionnelle en transport routier léger de marchandises ». A pedal-assisted electric bike is not a motorised vehicle for this rule. An e-bike with a stronger motor or faster assistance is a moped (« cyclomoteur ») that must be registered, and a modified (« débridé ») e-bike is not allowed on the road at all.

Step by step

  1. Check that your residence permit allows self-employment (EU, EEA and Swiss citizens need none).
  2. Register your micro-enterprise, for example « Livraison de repas à vélo ». Delivery is a commercial activity.
  3. Wait for your SIRET, then download your free « extrait K » on monidenum.fr, because Deliveroo asks for an « extrait KBIS ou équivalent ». You can also download INSEE's « avis de situation » on avis-situation-sirene.insee.fr.
  4. Use a bank account only for your business: for a commercial activity such as delivery, it is compulsory from the start.
  5. Apply on rider.deliveroo.fr (in English: rider.deliveroo.fr/en-FR/apply) and verify your identity with a photo.
  6. Deliver, then declare your turnover to URSSAF every month or every quarter: everything paid to you for your deliveries, before any fee, plus tips.

Payment, identity checks and subcontracting

  • Deliveroo pays your deliveries every two weeks, and you can cash out daily in the app.
  • Deliveroo checks riders' identity with a photo (facial recognition, or a manual check if you choose it): if you have not verified your identity, you cannot go online.
  • Subcontracting: you may have deliveries done by someone else only if Deliveroo accepts each subcontractor and the payment terms, and for no more than 15% of your yearly turnover. The subcontractor must be 18 or older and have the right to work in France as a self-employed person.
  • Undeclared subcontracting is a reason for ending your contract, and using a foreign worker who has no right to work can be punished by up to 5 years in prison and a €15,000 fine. As a micro-entrepreneur, you also pay contributions on everything Deliveroo pays you, including the part you pass on to your subcontractor.

What you will pay

Delivery is a commercial service (BIC): in 2026 you pay 21.2% of your turnover in social contributions, plus a training contribution of 0.2% and a small chamber fee (0.044%). For €1,000 of turnover in a month, that is €212 of contributions, €2 of training contribution and €0.44 of chamber fee. With ACRE, if you are eligible, the rate is 15.9% for a business started since 1 July 2026.

What may change

France must apply the EU directive on platform work by 2 December 2026. It may change how platforms work with riders. We will update this guide when the French rules are known.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Deliveroo application in English?

The sign-up page exists in English (rider.deliveroo.fr/en-FR/apply). The help pages we read are in French.

Do I need a Kbis?

No. A Kbis is for companies. Deliveroo asks for an « extrait KBIS ou équivalent » less than 30 days old: as a micro-entrepreneur, your equivalent is the « extrait K », which you can download for free on monidenum.fr.

Can I work for Deliveroo and Uber Eats at the same time?

Yes. One micro-enterprise is enough for several platforms. Note that Uber Eats France only accepts bikes and pedal-assisted e-bikes, and that since 1 October 2026 Uber Eats may declare your Uber Eats turnover to URSSAF for you: do not declare it twice.
